LAFAYETTE, Indiana (WLFI) — Copper Moon Coffee is planning a multimillion-dollar expansion of its Lafayette facility.

There are many different products packaged at the Copper Moon facility in Lafayette. Now, the company is looking to expand and produce even more.

On Thursday, the Lafayette Redevelopment Commission approved $2.9 million in tax abatements for the business.

Copper Moon is adding 30,000 square feet to its current building. That will make it about 82,000 square feet total.

Multiple production lines will be added for coffee roasting and packaging, and that will open five additional jobs to the 47 people already employed.

President Cary Gutwein said it will help Copper Moon expand its customer base.

"The brand continues to grow and we pack coffee not only in our brand, but we also package it for other brands as well," said Gutwein. "So having a facility that we can continue to grow with and expand our market, I think is a good thing for Lafayette."

Gutwein added the investment is an important move for the Lafayette-based company.

"We roast it and we package into products, and all that's done right here in Lafayette," Gutwein explained. "So being able to have the space and the infrastructure to be able to do that is important for our growth."

Gutwein said construction could start as soon as July 1 and finish within a year.

Along with the five new positions, he said the company is always accepting applicants. To apply, email a resume to HR@CopperMoonCoffee.com.
